The other night I did a telephone interview with Seattle P-I columnist Mary Swift, who I had tipped off about the hair farming project last weekend. She was kind enough to do a nice write up in her column which appeared on the P-I website this evening. I'll have to go out and buy a copy of the paper tomorrow to see if it made it in print. (I guess it's true that everyone likes to see their name in the newspaper, but I really just hope that a lot of people read about the program and decide to join in to help). I have a feeling that I'll soon be doing a lot more publicity for this project, including more interviews and going to schools to talk to different student groups. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions on how I can achieve my goal of recruiting 999 other hair farmers - please, please, please let me know. |

It's been great to have the initial two sponsors for this website and my hair farming project. Dawn Renee Mallory of Autograf hair products has donated some great hair care products (although I went through them rather quickly - it's amazing to me how hard it is to take care of hair - I'd never done it before) and The Queensboro Shirt Company was kind enough to donate some logo products (shirts, hats and a jacket) to promote the cause (they even designed the above logo for me. I really believe in mutually beneficial partnerships and am open to any ideas. Anything that can help me in my quest to spread the word about the need for hair for children in need (or anything else to help kids) will be considered. If you have any ideas, suggestions or would like to help - I'd love to hear from you. |

I just read my last post and am more than a little embarrassed! (and now unpublished it) I guess sometimes I shouldn't write about my personal life - but that's one of my faults. My life is like an open book. Thank you to all the friends and soon to be friends that have written and called with support. Still the same, this site is not supposed to be about me at all - it is about growing and donating hair for children in need. I'm looking for more people to join me as hair farmers. If you can help - please let me know. In the future I will attempt to keep my personal posts to one of my other blogs - Hair Farmer Joe's Silver Linings . |

Lately I've been asked a lot - why hair farming? The truth is that I don't know. |

This morning I got this Google alert in my email. I had just waken up, so was kind of groggy. I actually believed for half a second that SimplyHired has local listings for jobs as a hair farmer ... NO - they didn't have any listings, but if they did - I'm sure the pay would not be worth the challenges presented by having so many bad hair days (at least in my case). With my hair farming, the only pay I need is the thought that I will be helping a child who has already gone through major medical issues, fit in at school and with their friends. |

Here's the latest photo of me - taken February 20, 2008. I put some gel in my hair to calm my hair down, so you cannot see all of it - but you can tell that it is getting longer in the back.
Would you hire this guy? As has been pointed out to me by numerous people, if I actually get a job, I won't be able to continue to work on some of the great projects I have going on. It looks like I will be doing a lot more travel writing in the future, with plans in the works for articles on one of two cruise lines and a stay at a Hawaiian resort. I love doing that stuff, so if you have any suggestions, I would love to hear from you. BTW - did you see the article I wrote about Whistler for Eastside Business newspaper? It seems like EB is breaking out of its holiday doldrums and really starting to take off again. I like all the recent activity - especially the number of new advertisers who are seeking us out to help them get more customers. |
